The artist “Mr.” is on the most fundamental level the producer. However, he could also be viewed as a “user” of art techniques that were developed by his predecessors. Some of his predecessor may view his use of art techniques as accurate if they fit with their notions of artistic accuracy. Conversely, more conservative predecessors may believe “Mr.” is producing inaccurate art (if such a thing exists) if he is not following the guidelines of a particular artistic tradition or technique. Although it is not that important in pop art, more traditional forms of art in Japan do put a large emphasis on accurately following the traditions of a particular school of art.
Viewers, art critics, gallery organizers, etc. are all in some way users of art.
